DESCRIPTION:Interested in joining a keen local bunch of gardening enthusiasts?  Come and join Friends of the Farm’s next orchard working bee on Sat 2 Nov 2-4pm. \nJobs to do might include laying cardboard\, mulching\, planting\, weeding\, painting\, harvesting\, and anything else that turns up on the day.  It’s a never-ending task\, mulching our new food forest!  This forms part of our plan towards helping Mangere Bridge to become more food resilient; feeding our community well into the future from plants which have proven over time to grow well in our place. The reduction in waste from packaging and carbon emissions from air miles\, when you just have to walk down the road for a feed\, is an added bonus! \nGood company plus home-made baked goodies and tea/coffee will be your reward.  Look out for the Friends of the Farm flag on the side of the road near 82 Wallace Rd\, Mangere Bridge

Here’s what we have planned:\n– Community Hāngī Fundraiser: Enjoy a delicious hāngī for just $10! Proceeds support Etū Rākau and the new mara kai (garden) at the Māngere Community Enviro Hub\, promoting sustainable food practices.\n– Kēmu Māori and Cultural Workshops: Join Harko Brown and the Māngere Mountain Education Centre team for interactive Māori games and activities that celebrate our rich cultural heritage.\n– Tūpuna Maunga Information Hub: Learn about the Tūpuna Maunga Authority’s conservation work and how you can get involved in initiatives like native planting days and pest-free trapping.\n– Maunga Clean-Up: Etū Rākau will lead a clean-up activation to help spread awareness of the impact of rubbish to our natural environment. Collected rubbish will be creatively repurposed for fun activities throughout the day!\nLet’s come together to celebrate and protect our cherished Tūpuna Maunga.
