Carol from Kindy- retiring after 29 years

, , ,

Kia ora, I’m Carol.

I’ve lived in Māngere Bridge for 45 years and taught at Māngere Bridge Kindergarten for 29 years. Thousands of children have gone through the kindergarten.

Some will remember the zoom slide or using real tools, others will remember Monday morning visits to Ambury Farm, where we join in with farm life and build a connection with nature.

Among my many highlights was 2005 when the kindergarten was chosen as a Centre of Innovation, researching transition from kindergarten to school. The findings supported many children to take this step successfully and led to the publication of a book Crossing the border in 2012. We also presented the findings at conferences nationwide and overseas.

“I’ll miss the children, families and my colleagues, but I’ll keep in touch…

Another special moment was when the kindergarten teaching team won the 2015 Prime Minister’s Award for Education Excellence. I also completed my Masters degree during this time.

I’ll miss the children, families and my colleagues, but I’ll keep in touch doing relief teaching.

The best things about living in Māngere Bridge; the people and the recreational environment – farm, foreshore and maunga. We are so lucky to live here.
