Perfect Weather for our Aug Orchard Working Bee

Perfect Weather for our Aug Orchard Working Bee

, , ,

Another lovely day in early August saw around 12 hardy souls enjoying the sunshine and braving the chilly breeze to complete a number of jobs that have been on the waiting list for a while.

The unruly compost heaps were finally tamed, with the beautiful dark compost returned to the soil around nearby fruit trees and uncompostable bits removed from site.  At the request of participants, including one newcomer Harriet, Peter ran a mini pruning workshop.  We now hope to get a good harvest of apples and pears from our espaliered trees.  And our second newcomer Wendy joined Yvonne and Jennie in the ongoing meditative task of maintaining our harakeke bushes.

As usual we wound up with a tasty home-baked afternoon tea and catch up with like-minded souls.  Great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.  Orchard working bees take place on the first Saturday of each month.  Come and join us at our next one on Sat 6 September.  Keep an eye out for workshops throughout the year: composting, grafting, pruning.  We will also consider requests for topics for workshops.
