Māngere Bridge Community Orchard Working Bee

September 6 @ 2:00 pm4:00 pm
Mangere Bridge Community Orchard Working Bee

THIS MONTH (September 6th 2025)

If you’ve been thinking of starting a composting system but don’t quite know how, come to our free workshop.

At our last orchard working bee, we emptied our very untidy compost bins.  This time, we have Hari from the Compost Collective coming to run a workshop on how to get the best results from your compost bin.  He’ll answer your composting conundrums: what to put in it, how much, what we mean by green and brown layers, how long before the compost is ready to use on the garden, among others.  And if you’re interested in bokashi or worm farms, Hari’s your man to ask.

The workshop is free and all confirmed composting workshop attendees will receive a 50% off coupon to use towards the composting system of your choice (Bokashi, worm farm, or traditional compost bin).

Interested in joining a keen local bunch of gardening enthusiasts?  Come and join Friends of the Farm’s next orchard working bee on the first Saturday of every month from 2-4pm.

This forms part of our plan towards helping Māngere Bridge to become more food resilient; feeding our community well into the future from plants which have proven over time to grow well in our place. The reduction in waste from packaging and carbon emissions from air miles, when you just have to walk down the road for a feed, is an added bonus!

Good company plus home-made baked goodies and tea/coffee will be your reward.  Look out for the Friends of the Farm flag on the side of the road near 82 Wallace Rd, Mangere Bridge
