2026 Pumpkin Competition Details and Rules

, , , , , ,

Last year was our first event, we had a great turnout of pumpkins and at the same time we hosted a harvest swap.

People were able to bring along their extra veges they had grown or share preserves they had made. People that had collected seedlings from the swap, came back to share the fruits of their labour, he rawe!

We learnt a lot last year when running the 1st pumpkin growing competition, we learnt that people are very competitive, so this year we have made some rules, so everyone is clear…

  • All pumpkins must be registered for the competition with Friends of the Farm and have received a seedling from Friends of the Farm – email friends@fof.nz.
  • Everyone gets the same seedling and everyone gets the same growing time.
  • One seedling per person registered
  • Seedlings will be ready to collect at our upcoming Seedling Swap, if you can’t make it, we can arrange collection after seedling swap event on the 26th September 2026.
  • Pumpkin growers can enter as many categories as they like

Categories

  • Heaviest – by weight
  • Best carved is best carved pumpkin
  • Ugliest – is an ugly pumpkin
  • Perfect – a perfect Cinderella carriage pumpkin

Winners of the best carved, ugliest and perfect pumpkin will be decided by public vote, heaviest is the heaviest.

All pumpkins will be weighed on arrival.

Event details to come later, though predicting to be late February 2027
