The lantern is a symbol of lighting and brightening the path for the Māori new year. Traditionally, the star Puanga (Rigel) and the star cluster of Matariki (Pleiades) appears as a sign of the new lunar cycle in Aotearoa.
Friends of the Farm invite you, your friends and family to join in a foreshore lantern walk to celebrate Matariki at Ambury Farm. Meet at 5.30 at the farm barn to make lanterns or bring your own lantern. All you’ll need is an empty tin can per person full with frozen water (we will have spares). We’ll have a rewarding sausage sizzle before the walk and hot chocolates after, yum! Join us for free family fun on the farm – come prepared for the winter weather.
