Matariki Moonlight
July 15 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

The lantern is a symbol of lighting and brightening the path for the Māori new year. Traditionally, the star Puanga (Rigel) and the star cluster of Matariki (Pleiades) appears as a sign of the new lunar cycle in Aotearoa.
Friends of the Farm invite all the kids and families to join in a lantern walk to celebrate Matariki at Ambury Farm. Meet at 5.30 at the farm barn to make lanterns or bring your own lantern. All you’ll need is an empty tin can each full with frozen water (we will have spares) .
Wondering why you need a can full of frozen water? – check out the link attached.
We will have the hammers, nails and wires and tea lights to design and make your lanterns, while we gobble a sausage sizzle – vegetarians catered for too :o)
Follow this link for a list of videos on how to build your lantern.
Once it’s dark, we will take a lantern walk stroll around the foreshore and finish with hot chocolate and biscuits.
Come prepared for the winter weather – such fun!
