Public libraries have changed a lot over the years. Back in the day they were quiet places where people were frowned at for making any noise. You talked in a whisper and chose your books as quietly as you could.
These days, libraries are vibrant places that are the centre of communities. In addition to books and magazines, they offer activities to suit every age group, from babies and preschoolers’ music sessions to school holiday programmes to computer assistance for older adults. They provide computers and internet access plus other services like Justices of the Peace. There is definitely something for everyone!
Here are some examples of recent events in my local library, which cover a wide range of activity, from recycling collection, to a group providing knitted and crochet items for the Middlemore Foundation and an event celebrating Auckland’s rich diverse cultural heritage.
