Work has begun on major upgrades and enhancements to the track network at Te Pane o Mataoho/ Te Ara Pueru/ Māngere Mountain. These changes are aimed at preserving historic pā features and providing a safer, enhanced visitor experience.
The design of the new track includes a mix of aggregate paths, basalt rock steps and a floating staircase on the steeper northern descent, including rest areas and seats at key points to take in the view.
Upgrade work began in May 2021 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2021. Part of the Maunga will be closed while construction occurs and information and wayfinding signage is in place. The main walking track from the sportsfield carpark to the tihi (summit) will remain open for most of the project duration but will be briefly closed around October 2021 for approximately four weeks.
