Hi, my name is Sapati. I’m a singer and music/ song writer, as well as a freelance editor/director/ presenter for Fresh TV, a youth Pasifika TV show.
Growing up, I lived in Māngere Bridge and Wellington. I attended Queen Margaret College, Wellington East Girls’ College, Auckland Girls’ Grammar and King’s College. These different schools gave me great experiences and exposure to a wide variety of people.
My stage name is Disciple Pati. My backing band consists of friends from King’s and my sister Hinauri. We’ve performed at different venues, including the Auckland Arts Festival.
“…seeing a young woman of colour perform gives them confidence and courage to be themselves.”
I am learning to sew clothes to wear on stage. I wish the music industry focused more on respecting talent, instead of expecting women performers to conform to outdated expectations about presentation.
I love performing, baring my soul through the music. After my shows, I’ve had young women come up and tell me that seeing a young woman of colour perform gives them confidence and courage to be themselves.
