Wash Against Waste

Wash Against Waste

, , , , , ,

Are you wondering what that means?

It simply means washing the dishes.

Rather than buying single use disposable plastics or compostable plates that ultimately end up in a black rubbish bag and in landfill it also means saving money.

Friends of the Farm have a Wash Against Waste Kit, which consists of everything you need when hosting up to 50 people with food. We have plates, cutlery, cups and tumblers, tea towels, scrubbing brushes, cloths, dish washing gloves and large bowls to use if you don’t have a sink available.  You will also need a supply of hot water, either an urn, or gas cooker and a big pot!

Recently FOF were delighted to be part of Etu Rakau activation at the Mangere Enviro Hub, it was a great collaboration.  You can check out what happened on the day via this link.

The early bird students were treated to a wonderful breakfast on real crockery then we washed all the dishes and had them ready for what was a fabulous hangi lunch.

All that food needed preparation and also made for used dishes.  Our wash against waste took care of that too.

The students really embraced the idea and ended up taking over the wash station, managing it themselves, which was wonderful.

The wash against waste system can also be used where people just wash the dishes they have used themselves.  It’s always very helpful to have one person overseeing the Wash Against Waste, especially to keep the hot water nice and hot so the dishes get good and clean.

Each time we use this system it’s like working in a large kitchen or a marae, where everyone has a job to do – you all pitch in and before you know it there is great chat and laughter and the mahi is done.

Our Wash Against Waste is free for our community to use, if you are interested, you can reach out to us, either via our website, our facebook https://www.facebook.com/FriendsoftheFarmMangereBridge/ or email us fof@friends.co.nz
