Friends of the Farm ran their 5th Repair Café recently; another 58 items were repaired and kept out of landfill.
As well as practical repairs Repair Cafés bring together our local community and provide opportunities to connect and give back to people.
One high school student, Luke was chatting to our IT expert Matt while Matt was repairing his vacuum cleaner. Matt talked about how much he was enjoying his electrical apprenticeship and how different it was from learning at school. Plus the benefits of being an electrician provides many career options once you have qualified. Luke was interested to hear more about this as he is interested in becoming an electrician, and he found it helpful to know what subjects Matt found relevant. Matt also explained how the school career advisor sourced electrical work experience, and helped with the pathway to his apprenticeship. Luke’s Mum reports that this chat with Matt has had far reaching effects on Luke. He now has an aim and purpose and has knuckled down and is doing better at school.
