Two massive light installations transformed Bill and Naomi Kirk Park in Māngere Bridge village into a magical looking place, keeping people transfixed as the pieces changed colour, flickering through all the colours of the rainbow. Live music, and a variety of food stalls, including ice creams, dumplings and doughnuts, added to the atmosphere.

Crank (a local cycling infrastructure consultancy group) set up a complimentary bike valet giving out free bike lights courtesy of Auckland Transport for those who arrived on bicycles and talked to people about initiatives in the local area.
Friends of the Farm (FOF) monitored the recycling bins, along with some young helpers, assisting people to dispose of their food wrapping and containers correctly. FOF member Marie said ” It’s great to see so many families out enjoying the light festival. People are being very responsible about disposing their rubbish in the correct bins and we’ve had some good chats about recycling. We’ve got our Food Scraps Fairy along tonight to add to the festive atmosphere and she’s engaged in korero with lots of locals. Thankfully the rain has held off and it’s been an enjoyable event. The Māngere Bridge Village Business Association has done a great job.”
